Hello, my name is Dan Howard and I am currently a freelance illustrator based in Atlanta, GA, USA. I began focusing more on digital painting around 2002 when I got my first Wacom and Painter 6.

Working digitally has a great advantage as I can create your visions from anywhere in the world and send it to you whenever you need it!

For the most part, I have a strong self taught artistic foundation from credible college courses and plenty of life drawing experience. This means I am able to adapt to meet your visions as the theories and practical learning are designed to allow me to turn your descriptions into satisfying conceptual drawings!

Not only that, I am credited with work from many high profile clients such as UDON/Capcom, Fantasy Flight Games, and many other projects. Plus, I have been featured in Imagine FX and Ballistic Publishing’s Exotique.

My humble beginnings started with anime fandom. During conventions, you will see me selling fan art of well known characters that people can relate with. This is a very important experience because it allows me to see to develop the ability to judge what is popular at any given time.

This simply means that I am constantly thinking about the needs of my clients. Therefore, I guarantee that my painting services will meet what is important to you as you describe your world to me.

With this experience, I can do the occasional fan art should there be a character or setting that you have strong connections towards.

Otherwise, I am primarily focus on original illustrations. If I had to pick a primary focus, it’s definitely in fantasy illustration. A lot of my freelance work has been fantasy as well. However, I am open to any and all genres.


From portraits to fantasy art, whatever you have in your mind, I will give all my effort to make sure it looks exactly as your vision depicts it.

Through the flexibility of the digital medium, I am able to offer my services in Photoshop, Painter, Manga Studio (inking) and ZBrush for light 3D work. My focus is primarily in illustration, concept with characters and environments.

From experience working with clients like Final Flight games, Capcom/Udon, Hideo, Arcane Tinmen, and Flight comics (and the associated IPs with those companies), quality of work is guaranteed and deadlines will be met!

To make my services available and easy to manage, my pay rates are usually per-job. So, depending on the job, it can be taken as an hourly wage or negotiated via contract. Personal commissions are, likewise, negotiable with limited to no commercial use.
