Supplemental 2d Digital Art Resources for the Motivated Learner!

It’s always best to look at other points of view. These 2d digital art resources will help you continue your learning in the field of digital art and drawing in general, while expanding your artistic knowledge tree so you can bring out the master in you!

I’ve carefully picked related sites and products that are relevant to digital art in some form or way; whether it’s directly or indirectly. Use them to expand on the concepts that I have already taught you.

To do that, I will explain what to look for so you can get the most from these learning resources. Again, I’ve grouped them into the types of learning resources: informative websites, drawing references, relevant products, and books (coming soon!).

Of course, the information will change as I find more relevant sites that are great supplements to learning 2d digital art!

1. Drawing websites as 2d digital art resources

A good concept of learning, which most of us should know by now, is the art of copying. Use existing drawings as a means to increase your understanding of applicable artistic concepts. All About Drawings is a site that gives you free templates to copy from so you can start practicing right away!

Most of 2d digital art stems from techniques learned in real media. Eventually, if you want to learn how to digitally paint portraits, you can use this Pastel Portrait Secrets guide to get the underlying idea how it’s done. You can then simulate the techniques learned in your digital art program to paint digital portraits!

2. Pictorial references as 2d digital art resources

Based on idea of imitation, you will eventually need real life references for 2d digital art. One of the greatest sources for references is in the natural world. This Nature and Flowers Pictures site offers free pictures of the natural world for you to reference and incorporate into your digital paintings!

Most artists use their own surroundings as a tool for inspiration. The stuff at the Blue Bay Gallery is an example where an artist used her own experiences, living in various parts of Canada, as an inspirational resource to help her paint. I hope she will inspire you to use what’s around you as well with her works and her learning advice!

3. Product tips as 2d digital art resources

Are you just using Photoshop and would like advanced tips on this application alone? Photoshop Tutorials Plus is your guide to learning specific functions unique to Photoshop. Use the information presented there to find specific supplemental learning opportunities for doing 2d digital art in Photoshop.

Eventually, you will need a graphics tablet to help you draw on the computer. Which ones are the best for your needs as well as which functions should you use to help do 2d digital art effective? The information found in the Graphics Tablet site will answer most of your concerns so you are educated about the importance of the graphics tablet and its functions.

4. Directories

Sometimes, you might not find everything you want in one website. That’s why there are directories. For the most part, directories offer an advantage in that there is always the human element.

As a massive online digital art community, Renderosity.com has tons of tutorial resources for you to check out. What’s more, it’s a great place to look at what other inspiring artists are doing.

Another directory worth checking out is Infinitee Designs. Just like Renderosity.com, what separates this directory from others is that it’s an entire resource site, packed with tutorials and galleries, on its own.

More supplementary learning sources will appear as I find them. Until then, always keep motivated to learn more about 2d digital art so you can be ready to absorb more relevant information!
