Are you looking for free drawing tutorials? Look no further! The online drawing lessons on this site is a gift to motivated and beginning artists like you that want to improve on their artistic skills!
For starters, there are infinite number possibilities when it comes to drawing and it's easy to get lost in all the noise.
While it's hard to say which ones are the best and which ones are the worst, I can assure you that I will teach you digital art techniques that have meaning rather than just teaching you shortcuts!
A lot of the stuff about drawing is that there are a lot of core concepts derived from studying the real world. Hence, the tutorials that you will see on this site will be based on drawing realistically rather than a set style!
Initially, there will be a few free drawing tutorials that are based on controlling your drawing strokes and lines.
Perhaps the first thing that you should know before you start anything is what level you are at in terms of controlling your pencil or digital stylus. How do you draw your lines? How do you draw your circles? How do you translate those into digital art techniques?
When people draw, there is a lot of planning that goes into it. But where does this planning come from? I can tell you one thing: it doesn't come from the urge to do it perfectly the first time!
Forget about doing it perfect. You have to let your hands loosen up first of all with the right sketching techniques. Sure, anyone can scribble. But what are the right sketching techniques to control them?
You will need to read on regarding a few drawing techniques such as contour drawings, gesture drawings, fundamental digital brush strokes, and digital inking techniques that are essential to executing a composition!
Once you are good with that...
Let's say you draw a circle. How will you distinguish it between a disk and a ball? It's when the light hits the object, and creates a shadow, that we know it's one from the other.
To put it bluntly, light and the absence of light (what we know as the shadow) is what we are the most concerned with when it comes to creating depth.
The best analogy would be that of a spot light shining down on an object in a dark room. Any object away from the center of the spot light looses its shine literally. There are more colors and values near the center than the rest.
Of course, you will learn about light source and where it will hit an object when you start to look at the properties of shadows. After that, all you have to do is to concentrate on how to paint light onto your objects.
Since this site is focused on the digital aspect of drawing, you can play around with all sorts of techniques without wasting valuable resources since it is all done digitally!
Of course, the free drawing tutorials that deal with creating depth can be applied to all sorts of media!
And once you are done with that...
Are you familiar with the color wheel? Most of us have at least heard of it at some point in our lives. However, not all of us know how to use this tool. The wheel is created as a mean to convey how color interacts with one another!
You may not know it, but there are four properties associated with every color: hue, value, intensity, and temperature. How you will paint and what colors you should use is dependent on what you know about these properties.
Besides, doing any artworks in color should be the last thing on the list. You should always sketch with very limited amounts of color first. If possible, do black and white drawings.
This will help you concentrate on seeing light and dark values. Don't worry about wasting time. With the advantage of a digital program, you will find that you are able to add color to black and white images with ease!
So how do you access all this knowledge?
It's easy! The free drawing tutorials are all easily accessible on the navigation menus on the side and bottom!
I recommend starting from the top and work your way down the tutorial lists in order to get the most out of your learning!
In order, you will learn about:
Also, there will be a section for you to submit your artworks online! That means you will have an opportunity to showcase what you have learned and what you can do! I highly encourage you to submit as often as possible!
